“I am in awe of the dancers I see in my clinic and it is my pleasure to help them achieve their goals”

The Edge Physiotherapy

Hello and welcome to our clinic. I am the co-owner and director of The Edge Physiotherapy, and my area of focus is dance physiotherapy.

I have decided to devote a whole page on my website to dancers as this is a group that I am particularly interested in treating. I have worked for over 10 years in the performing arts, and my tertiary qualifications are in advanced healthcare practice paediatrics. I wanted to further my education as a dance physiotherapist from the perspective of a paediatric physiotherapist. As I will go on to say time and time again, children’s bodies are very different to an adults, and respond differently to load and pressure.

Dancers are the most well rounded athletes you can come across, covering everything from high cardiovascular capacity, acrobatics (including gymnasts), flexibility, co-ordination, motor control, anatomical knowledge, and more often than not, they are coping with one injury or ailment at any one time. Their pain thresholds are high, they push themselves day after day, and they love it. They are also artists, but instead of a paintbrush or musical instrument, they use their bodies. I am constantly in awe of what a dancer can do, and they are a pleasure to treat.

I will be populating this space with bits and pieces relevant to dancers/gymnasts and performing artists each week, which is very exciting. I will cover videos, anatomy, injuries, rehabilitation concepts, training technique, and lots of nice pictures and vibrant content. I will also be organising some Q&A sessions with different dance studios who are interested.

If you would like to request a topic for me to cover, feel free to email me or we are also on Facebook and Instagram. You can book an appointment with me online or by contacting our clinic directly via phone or email.

Stay well

Sam.
